Water is heated in a mixing chamber by mixing it with hot water coming from a heater. The mixing chamber loses heat to the surroundings at a rate of 5 kW. The hot water enters the mixing chamber at a rate of 1 kg/s. The mixed water leaves the chamber fully mixed. - The cold water enters the mixing chamber at 200 kPa and 20°C at a velocity of 3 m/s - The hot water enters at a pressure of 100 kPa and 150°C at a velocity of 2 m/s - The surroundings temperature is 10°C The mixture leaves the chamber at 150 kPa and 70°C at a velocity of 5 m/s. What is the mass flow rate of the cold water and the rate of entropy generation in this process?
In this question a mixing chamber is given with two fluids entering the chamber and mixing inside then coming out as a complete mixture. The fluid at inlet are Hot water and Cold water respectively. In order to find the mass flow rate of the cold water and the entropy generated for the system can be calculated in following way:-
