Should the government be able to place limits on individual liberties in times of crisis? Why or why not?
Individual liberties define the freedom offered to the people in their nation and by their government. During crisis times, the government shall choose to limit or put restriction on the individual liberties in order to prevent further worsening of the situation. This shall not applicable to every crisis situations. Crisis situations are various types. Crisis situations can arise due to a complicated healthcare problem, financial problem, civil war situation, etc. During these types of crisis the government must take the situation under control and must limit the liberties to prevent the spread of rumors, misinformation, falsified news, etc. As during the times of such crisis the minds of the common weak people shall be fragile and the functioning of the antisocial elements shall become easy. Due to these the common weak people shall get affected largely.
In situations such as a political crisis, technology crisis, industry-job crisis, etc., the people should be provided all the rights to voice their opinion. The people will be clear about their stand with respect to the new rules put by government, company, etc. These shall serve as a medium through which the government shall understand the nation and people of the nation. By offering complete liberty, the people shall identify the new rules, amendment to the old rules, identify new leaders, plan the future of the nation, etc. Thus, when it comes to certain crisis situation as mentioned above, there should be no restriction on the individual liberties.
