How does the ppbRAE operate and why is it not able to measure individual gases?
Operation Procedure:
1. Turn on instrument by pressing and holding the MODE button until
the unit beeps.
• The unit will go through a warm up, displaying: monitor’s serial
number, model number, operating mode (hygiene or survey), current
date and time, unit’s internal temperature, gas selected, high,
low, STEL, TWA/AVG alarm limits, battery voltage, shut off voltage,
user mode, alarm mode, remaining datalog time, and log
periods.
2. When the startup procedure is completed, “Ready…” will appear on
the display if monitor is in survey mode (default).
• If the monitor does not show “Ready…” on the display and
starts displaying VOC concentrations instead, the manual is in
hygiene mode
3. To log your measurement (Bypass this step if you don’t want/need
logging):
a. Press the MODE button to scroll through the survey mode
menu.
b. When “Log ON?” is displayed, press Y/+ to enable logging.
c. Press MODE button until back at the “Ready…” display.
4. Press the Y/+ button to start a logging measurement.
5. Record Site ID number that is immediately displayed on unit
after starting measurement.
• This is your way of identifying your logging event after
downloading or viewing.
6. The current VOC concentration will be viewed on the
screen.
NOTE: if logging is enabled, a small L will be next to
concentration.
7. To stop/end a measurement, press the MODE button.
8. Press Y/+ button to accept stop request.
9. To start new measurement, repeat steps 4-8.
10. To turn instrument off, press and hold the MODE button for 5
seconds.
The procedure for using the VOC zeroing tube to zero the ppbRAE
is:
1. Connect the tube adapter to the Flex-I-Probe by inserting
the tip of the sample probe into the smaller end.
2. Break the two ends of a VOC zeroing tube
using the side hole of the tube adapter
3. Insert one end of the open VOC zeroing tube into the
bigger
end of the adapter (the arrow indicates the right direction).
4. Run the zeroing calibration procedure of the instrument to
zero the unit.
5. Discard the used VOC zeroing tube (single use only) and put the
tube adapter back to the VOC zeroing kit container.
