Marriage is an institution that is accepted by all the societies across the world for reproduction and personal support. It’s a legal arrangement where a man and woman, in traditional sense become partners and vow to live together in all walks of life. Today, we find the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans-sexual) coming inside the institution of marriage as well. Marriage, in most of the country is the license for sexual union because pre-marital and extra-marital sexual union is condemned in most of the countries except the individualistic countries where people live together before marriage.
Lifelong partnership – Marriages are fixed in heaven means by gods is a famous saying. So, people who get married vow in front of God and law that they will live together and support each other. This partnership is for life-long but time has changed that people don’t stick to it. Today, they just leave if they don’t like to live together for few reasons such as loss of trust, lack of openness, lack of sex etc.
Family set-up – The smallest unit of a society is family and in marriage a new family is created and they further create children thus making the family strong. They all support each other and help each other function successfully in the society. They depend on each other in fulfilling their life’s goals.
Differences – There are different rules and regulation concerning age of marriage, ceremonies of marriage etc. depending on culture, religion and society. Western countries have live-in set-up where a man and woman is allowed to live together before marriage and if they like they can continue if they don’t they will just leave. Few other developing countries marriage is the only way someone can have an open relationship with a man or woman.
Marriage still stands as the legal institution to form familial unit in the society but the society and culture around the world are in constant change thus threatening the institution itself. Many people argue that marriage is a bond that keeps people bound even in unfavorable situations. Although people want to break out of their marriage life, they need financial security in order to break away and live alone. If they have children it makes things more complicated.
