A question/hypothesis can be tricky…and confusing! Before you can write a question and then the hypothesis, you must first ask yourself -What area of child development really intrigues me? Read the front inside cover of your book; discover which area of child development piques your interest and then formulate your hypothesis. As a researcher you need to ask the question before a hypothesis can be formulated.
Later, in the semester, you will narrow down your topic and then focus on all information that pertains to this subject. The completion of this paper will be your Final.
A hypothesis is defined as "a prediction stated in a way that permits it to be tested" (Feldman, 2012, p.34). A hypothesis expresses the potential relationship between the variables in the research.
Example: A research question could be: "Can genetic testing ensure that all prenatal inherited and genetic disorders can be detected before the fetus is nine weeks?
And the hypothesis could be: "When genetic testing is done, all prenatal inherited and genetic disorders can be detected before the fetus is nine weeks" or "When genetic testing is done, all prenatal inherited and genetic disorders cannot be detected before the fetus is nine weeks."
