what are real microorganism that may be of positive use or a microorganism that may have a positive impact on something else (a prokaryote, a eukaryote, an acellular agent) and focus on any aspect of the microorganism – for example structure(s) and/or function(s) – that may have any positive outcome, use, or impact.

(1) that it must be within the natural capabilities of the microorganism and must be original.

Rhizobium- natural biofertilizer:

  • Nitrogen is the most abundant form of nitrogen in environment but is not inactive and hence cannot be utilized as source of nitrogen.
  • By nitrogen cycle, free nitrogen may be fixed by certain microorganisms.
  • Microorganisms Rhizobia can convert Nitrogen to Ammonia.

N2 + 3 H2 --> 2NH3

  • Thus, Rhizobia are capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen in soil, which act as natural biofertilizer for plants.

Characteristics of Rhizobia:

  • Rhizobium is Gram negative bacteria that are diazotroph (Nitrogen fixer).
  • They can form symbiotic association with leguminous plants to form root nodules.
  • The plant release secondary metabolites (flavonoids) that are recognized by Rhizobia in the soil.
  • This cause expression of nod genes (Nodulation genes) to produce Nod factors that in turn stimulate the symbiotic partner plant and process of nodule formation occurs.
  • The bacteria thrives within the nodule by using nutrients (organic acids) supplied by the plant, while it uses nitrogen fixing enzymes (Nitrogenase) to fix nitrogen.
  • Rhizobium have Molybdenum- Nitrogenous complex.

Short Answer As we have been learning during the semester all microorganism are unique and may have the ability to increase its pathogenicity dependent on the environment. This week we were introduced to hydrolytic enzymes, list two enzymes (enzymatic activity of Casease, enzymatic activity of Gelatinase) and their function. Using your critical thinking, explain why it is of importance to identify microorganism that have hydrolytic abilities. The two anzymes is (enzymatic activity of Casease, enzymatic activity of Gelatinase)
