Media plays an important role in influencing the psychology of children and adolescents. Some studies show staggering rates of time and addictive behaviour adolescents show towards these social media portals, such as, 97% of 14-15 year olds and 99% of 16-17 year olds are regular users on these.Psychologists and researchers have discovered that social media affects their self worth, confidence and self esteem. The increased usage of screen time leads to less use of physical movements that may be associated with sadness, feeling low and emotional dysfunctions. An interesting study showed that adolescents who are passive in their nature, are involved in commenting profiles and generally have a low self esteem issues.Adolescents seek attention through the social network web and get used to it.Any sort of decreased attention may lead to anxiety and depression issues in them.
Studies reveal that adolescent males and females are affected differently. The females tend to be more affected by bodily perceptions whereas males tend to relate the lifestyle and images of their peers. This in turn affect their well being and quality of life.
Good luck!
