According to Schaller, Park, & Mueller (2003) Past research has indicated that men report higher levels of racism and ethnocentrism than women. why do men report higher levels of racism and ethnocentrism than women? why not?
It has been found that the men are more loyal towards groups and would be displaying would be infra humanising members who are out of their group. They also tend to display inter group threats. It has been found that the men would be more prejudiced against people who are out of their groups.
Since past, men have been the people who have been handing groups. A reason explaining this is the male warrior hypothesis, along with the biological as well as cultural causes that has caused this male warrior phenomenon.
The human mind is designed in such a manner that they would be oriented towards the society. There has been a strong need in the men to be maintaining group integrity, to expand it to the greatest and create forces that would be used for defending the resources.
Men have the habit to display inter group aggression, such that they would be keeping up with the various resources, inthe form of water, food, mates as well as territories. The history of racism and ethnocentrism date back to the past, where our ancestors, would carry out the same behaviors.
As a result of an increase in sizes of the groups, there has been an increase in the need to be defending one themselves. In doing so, they become hostile towards the outgroups.
Men believe, that their race or ethnicity is greater, or stronger than the other races or the ethnicities. As a result, they tend to display actions of aggression, when asked to mingle with otero ethnicities. They believe that their boundary area or power is being hurt and thus, this intrusion in one’s race or ethnicity seems like a threat to their power and dominance.
This is also as a result of inter group conflicts as well as in group favouritism, that has occurred in the past, dehumanising out group members and derogating them is also a part of such behaviors.
