Human Resources is not a field merely for managing transactional functions , but also for strategic and operational functions. The Human Resources in today's world plays a vital role in the strategic planning as well as implementation of the strategic plans. HR of any firm connects the various departments of the organization, even if they may or may not be located at a common place. HR's main tool is communication and it ensures to maintain this as the backbone for the organization.

As for strategic planning, the HR is actively involved in it considering the increasing importance of performance based management system, i.e. the focus has changed from task-oriented to output- oriented approach. Further, the HR conducts skill set analysis which helps the firm realize it's present strengths and weaknesses and plan for overcoming the weaknesses in the near future. Considering this information, the HR is actively involved with designing and arranging training and development programs for all employees. such that their knowledge and skills improve in order to achieve the strategic goals of the organization.
