Code of ethics and code of conduct both describe the organizational behaviour or ways in which the company should regulate. The code of ethics is used for making the right decisions and code of conduct is used for keeping the right actions. Code of ethics provides a wider range of non-specific standards which help in making important decisions in case if a dilemma or conflicting situation with a set of values describing what is right and wrong. It helps a person to make individual judgements about the situation. Code of conduct, on the other hand, provide set rules of what is allowed, prohibited or required from a person in an organization. It doesn't put one in an uncertain situation as it gives a clear choice of either following the code or incurring a penalty.
These are two very important documents required for organizational culture. They give a direction to the employees working there about how they should act and what behaviour or practices are required at their jobs or acceptable from them. They give clear guidelines to employees and set standards of expectations from them regarding their behaviour at the workplace. These documents can be presented to the stakeholders serving as a marketing tool and improving company image which shows the strong culture followed in the company. They provide a benchmark on which the employees individually and the company on the whole can evaluate its pracices.
