Briefly discuss the importance, purpose and difference between Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Address the issues in creating of Code of Ethics with reference to procedures in implementation of it in an Organization in Oman.

Code of Ethics:

Code of ethics is kind of an aspirational document which is provided by organizations. It is based on principles and values that the organizaion actually believes in. Code of Ethics provides ideals and basic values of an organization. It is a general term which disclosed publicly by the company. Code of Ethics consists of many values and principles which are used mainly for decision making. It is a guideline that helps individuals in judgement and tackle a situation. It helps an individual to distinguish between right and wrong.

Code of conduct:

Code of Conduct is a sort of directional document which instructs about specific practices and behavior that is to be conducted. It is more sort of a specific object which operates in very narrow area. Code of Conduct is a part of Code of Ethics. It is circulated mainly to the employees of n organization and it should not be opened to public.Code of Conduct is charecterised by compliance and rules.

The difference between Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct are as follows:

  • Code of Ethics is aspirational in nature. Code of Conduct is a directional document.
  • Code of Ethics is by nature a general term while code of Conduct is specific in nature.
  • Code of Ethics is shorter than Code of Conduct.
  • Code of Conduct is a subpart of Code of Ethics. hence Code of Ethics has a vast occupency.
  • Code of Ethics is based on judgement of and organization while Code of Conduct is based on actions that needs to be taken by the employees of an organization.
  • Code of Ethics is available for all. Anybody can access Code of Ethics easily. But Code of Conduct is available only for employees of an organization. It is ment only for the employees.
  • Code of Ethics consists of principles and values of and organization while Code of Conduct focuces on compliance and action that needs to be followed by the employees.

Both Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct are important for the employees of an organization at it instruct them how to behave and how to maintain image of the organization publicly.

Oman is a country which mainly produces oil. The organizations in Oman produces oil in large scale. The Code of Ethics followed in the organizations in Oman gives importance on how accountable the organization is to deliver proper service. The service of the organizations are based on trust, goodwill and respect. The organizations try to provide a positive and equal work environment that nurtures growth and allows the employees to work with full potential. The management always try to lead from the front and look for the welfare of its employees. The mangement looks to impose open door policy and build honest corporate culture. They also look for pure transparency in management decisions.
