4. Why did the United States and the Soviet Union find themselves in a “Cold War” after World War II? Why was it referred to as a “Cold War?” How did the Cold War shape American domestic life and foreign policy? ESSAY QUESTION PLEASE ANSWER FULLY
Cold war is one of the major terms that took the world by shock. It was fought between the then two superpowers of the West and East, America and Russia. World War II left the world in turmoil and economic downturn. It was brought the power struggle and fight between capitalism and communism. Most of the Western countries including the Western European countries were supported by the US while the Eastern countries were supported by the communism packed Russia.
It was called a Cold War because it was fought indirectly between the two forces. America started to support countries that were threatened by Communism thus acting as the guardian for those countries by supporting them economically and politically. Russia on the other hand supported countries that supported communism. In a hot war these countries should fight head to head which would involve nuclear weapons. So, it’s an indirect war which uses economy, trade, transport, space, and political allies etc. as the tools. Although the cold war seems to have ended, it still pops up with different international issues where these two countries involve and try to either solve the problem or take advantage of that country.
