A Retail company is extending the company network to support extra branches in another country. Answer the following questions:
1. You want to mitigate internal and external threats facing the company network by using different security network components. Choose among the use of static IP addressing, NAT, securing and analysing the system access logs. Choose the most appropriate option and rationalize your answer.
2. Evaluate the use of VPN and propose an alternate solution for a company to expand their existing VPN network to another country e.g. New Zealand. In proposing an alternate VPN network design, consider the following factors: 150 new users added 5 users in New Zealand 20% growth of users in 4 years for the entire network
3. Discuss key aspects of this scenario in terms of a) efficiency, b) security, and c) scalability for future expansion
Hi, I would love to answer you with this question. I hope you will like an answer and get a clear idea related to the same. So not wasting much time lets get started.
Ans.1 The most appropriate option to mitigate the risk internally or externally in the network is securing and analysing the system access logs.
The reason to select the option over NAT and static IP addressing is that these two can be secured so easily and does not effect much during the risk or threat but if we analyze and secure the system access logs then the internal and the external working over the network can be traced for any type of risks.
Ans.2 VPN (Virtual Private Network) is for the secured and the encrypted transfer of the data over the personalised network in the form of tunnel and no other can have access to it if not having a VPN pack in it. This may sometime slower the speed as the distance of the other enterprise is so far as in NewZealand, and if the users are increased then the no os hosts capability of the network must be increase so as to maintain the connection speed and the reliability.
The enhancement needed is, as the customers increased by 20% in 4 years so the VPN must be reconfigured so as to maintain in the network for the reliable connection.
Ans.3 a) efficiency- The efficiency in the above scenarios means the efficiency of the packets transmission over the VPN or in the network, so whether we talk in a normal network or the VPN the connection must be fast and efficient for reliable connection. The VPN is somehow less efficient but that's ok, normal networks are more efficient.
b) security- The VPN(Virtual Private Network) is the most secure as the tunnel is been created for the secure and encrypted transmission as it cannot be captured outside the VPN.
c) scalability for future expansion- The VPN has more problem in the expansion rather comparing with the networks without the VPN technology but the VPN is the secure one and efficient (as required not fully) as only 10-20% efficiency in transmission is reduce only.
I hope you got an answer and a clear idea for the same
