One of the modern diseases that has been melting the integrity of the society and its values is corruption but the traces of corruption can be tracked down to the older civilizations too. Everyone loves money because their livelihood and lifestyle depends on money which remains an exchange for goods. Many people live their lives in an ethical way upholding the moral principles while few, because of their greediness started taking sort-cuts. They not only corrupt themselves but others by tempting them with money.
Corruption is present everywhere, from the child to the presidential candidate. For example, if the parents ask the child to do something, it doesn’t obey but when something like a chocolate, a toy or a candy is given it starts doing it. So, corruption has already started but the scale is small. The child keeps demanding from the parents whenever it wants to do something. Corruption is developed by impatient people who wanted to get their tasks quickly by bargaining with the concerned officials. This, over period of time made the officials work only after receiving the bribe. Most of the developing nations and underdeveloped countries are suffering from corruption. Even the justice system is heavily corrupted.
Today, in developed countries, most of the multi-national corporations bribe the officials to get the job done. They have the hold even on the governments, so, if an official don’t act in favor of them, they will either remove them from that position or remove them permanently from the world. Corruption has played major role in devastating and unequal distribution of the wealth worldwide. Criminals, for smuggling goods and illegal drugs, bribe the customs officers and get their things done. They then create a big mess in the society and pay in money for their atrocities.
The problem with these people is that they would brutally murder or injure anyone who speaks against corruption. They try to make corruption part and parcel of the society thus making the ordinary people struggle hard. They either need to wait for a long time to get their things done or they have to pay huge money as bribe. Rich corrupt the officials and the officials follow the same trend with the poorer section of the society.
There is a saying that unless a thief changes his mind and come out of stealing, no one can remove stealing from the society. Similarly, unless people who are ready to give corruptions stop, no one can stop corruption. There need to be severe punishments for corruption. Government servants should be dismissed from their work and their properties should be seized by the government. If a politician is involved in corruption, they should be banned for life. Only severe punishments and timely punishments will prevent corruption.
If we look at Book of Isaiah, it says, Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the Lord; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him. Proverbs also state almost in the same tone by saying, but the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. Book of Job is another place that speaks of corruption by saying he reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light. So, Bible and Christianity have always stood against corruption but the interesting thing here is that corruption was prevalent a long time before Christ even.
