Physical Distribution consists of various activities which are involved in the supply of a good from the production line to the end consumer. It consists of the path taken by the finished goods to reach the end consumer.The design of a physical distribution system could differ between companies, the type of product and the level of customer satisfaction targeted.

The activities forming a physical distribution system are interdependent as well as interrelated. This interdependency is necessary to ensure the efficiency and smooth flow of the goods between various stages of distribution channel. Any change or decision implemented in one area can have effects on the other areas also. This makes them dependent on each other. Interdependency between the activities is necessary so as to achieve the required level of customer satisfaction at minimal costs for the organization. To achieve this, the activities have to be synced to one another, wherein a change on any activity induces the necessary changes in other activities along the distribution path to ensure the smooth flow.
