In this discussion, please address the following: What is the most important characteristic a project manager must have to be successful? Explain your answer. Should a project manager only concern be their project and their project only? Explain your answer. Should a project manager be more of a "leader" or a "manager" when it comes to their project? Explain your answer.
A. The characteristics which a Project Manager should have are:
1. Excellent Communicator: Being able to communicate clearly and effectively with a good convincing ability is the most important characteristic a manager should possess.
2. Enthusiastic: The Project Manager should be optimistic and enthusiastic enough to direct the efforts of the team efficiently for on-time project completion.
3. Problem Solving ability: It is very likely that the project manager may encounter with so many unexpected problems and hurdles, therefore, it is highly required that the Project Manager should be good in problem-solving.
4. Cool and Collected: The Project Manager should be able to manage his stress and pressure which arises either during the project or in his personal life. He needs to remain cool all the time including budgets not met, team members are struggling, project completion time extends etc.
5. Delegation of Tasks: It is very important for a Project Manager to allocate right tasks to right individuals for a project to complete effectively on time. He needs to know the strength and weakness of each [roject coordinator.
B. As per my belief, the Project Manager should only be concerned about their project only, because the project manager has to meet the project objective on time. The efforts of the project manager will be distributed if he puts his concern for any other project and then the project may not be completed effectively and on time. Therefore, it is important for a Project Manager to concern only on their project.
C. The Project Manager should be more of a Leader than a Manager because he needs to allocate the work to all the project coordinators and get the work done by them on time. For that, he needs to have leadership quality so that the project coordinators may be influenced by his skills and knowledge, and be more devoted to work effectively for the project.
