1. What are the main components of Transportation in the supply chain ? What are the main parties that influence transportation and what are their specific roles?
The main components of transportation are as follows:
Node - It has access to the network of transportation
Link - It is infrastructure which connects two nodes
Flow =- It shows the amount of traffic circulating between two nodes.
Gateway - It acts as connector for two different systems operating and acts as a passage for various flows.
Hub - It is a node which is handling high level of traffic and connect the elements of same or different transport network.
Feeder - It is linked to a node and organizes the direction of the traffic.
Corridor - It is a sequence of nodes and link flows supporting the model network
So above are the component of the network and their functions. The parties that influence the transportation and their roles are as below:
Government - Generally government policies are to make the transportation efficient and make their role significant in designing the tax and infrastructure policies which are more inclined towards the transportation.
Manpower - Driver availability for various mode of transport makes it more demanding. So a skilled environment which allows for a better transport movability.
Client - A client which opts for best transportation model. Client is the key person in opting from various modes of transport available for product to be delivered.
Regulators - They are the one which follows government policies. They also play a major role that all the government policies are implemented successfully and in proper way. This can impact transportation decisions as well.
Transporter - Availability to carry a load with any transporter makes them part of the influencer in transportation. They should maintain a well defined capacity to carry the load and thus allows to influence the decision.
