Describe a viral infection (cite your sources).

Solutions

Expert Solution

Viral infection is the proliferation of virus inside the body. Viruses infect a host by introducing their genetic material into the cells and harm the harm the cells internal machinery to produce more virus particles.Depending on the type of virus and the health of a person, virus can affect all tissues from the brain to skin.

The steps in viral replication involves, attachment, penetration, uncoating, replication, assembly, and release. In the first steps, the virus attaches itself to a host cell and injects its genetic material into it.

Eg:Common cold,flu,small pox,chicken pox,polio,hepatitis,herpes,rabis,etc

Transmission:It can transmitted in many ways like,

  • Touch
  • Exchange of body fluids
  • Contaminated food or water
  • Sexual contacts
  • Through insects,etc,.

When an infectious agent enters our body, our immune system fight with them and tries to rid the body of infectious agent.Certain symptoms are caused due to this attack. Some common symptoms of viral infection are coughing, sneezing, vomiting, fever, inflammation, etc,.

Our body make antibodies against these infection, these antibodies bind to the virus and the white blood cells can engulf and destroy them.

Prevention

We can prevent the entry of virus by many ways like,

  • Wash hand properly
  • Cover your cough
  • Do not share eating utensils,bathing utensils,etc,.
  • Wash and bandage all wounds and cuts
  • Avoid direct contact with used hankerchiefs, napkins, etc,.

Describe the pathophysiology of acute inflammation induced by a viral infection. Suppose that the natural mechanism of acute inflammation was not successful in healing the tissue area damaged by the virus and necrotic patches developed in the lungs. Explain how inflammation could progress to necrosis.
