2)Using the neuroscience theory, explaining why people suffer from mental disorders
3)What kind of concerns would a cognitive psychologist deal with a client/patient. What are some of the significant influences would a cognitive psychologist be looking for?
4) How could you tell if someone favors the behavioral theory. What are some of the key elements
5) Which do you think is more important in development-- nature or nurture and why.
6) Why did the humanistic theory fall under the domain of free will. Why not determinism?
7) Which of the five theories (cognitive, behavioral, neurosciene, psychodynamic, and human) is closest to religious beliefs-- why?
8) Which Theory do you think is most important one. Please support your argument with an outside source.
2) People suffer from mental disorders because mental disorders are related to the abnormality in thought and behavior, which are governed by the different parts of the brain. For example, injury to the frontal lobe causes impairment in working memory. Similarly, the problem in the occipital lobe causes visual problems.
3) Cognitive psychologists deal with the concerns of thought problems like cognitive distortions, irrational thinking, automatic negative thoughts, and their consequences. A cognitive psychologist is influenced by the observation of the thought problems and irrational core beliefs that the client has.
4) It can be identified that whether someone favors the behavioral theory by examining if he/she is focused on the observed behavior and consequences of the behavior. If the person is focused on the behavioral aspect, then the person is said to be oriented to behavioral theory.
5) Nature, biological and genetic makeup, is more important because it provides a powerful drive to live, exist, and sustain life. Nature can not be changed while the nurture can be modified. Therefore, nature is more important.
6) Humanistic theories are focused on free will because these theories do not favor the conditions applied to human beings. They focus on the realistic and free aspects of human life that are necessary for the personal and deep growth of someone. Unlike determinism, they do not focus on the cause and effect aspect of one’s life.
7) Humanistic theories like Rogers and Maslow’s theory are more related to religious beliefs because religions talk about natural processes rather than the external reality as defined by the behaviorism, neuroscience, and other disciplines. Humanistic theories emphasize the concept of self, like religions.
8) I think cognitive theories are more important because the thoughts are the main triggering factors that influence the behavior and the person’s life. A positive thought with the right direction always leads to good behaviors which are mostly proved to be healthy and worthy for the person. On the other hand, it is the thought that may give rise to dangerous behaviors, if the thought process is contained with errors.
