EDUCATION IS A RIGHT AND NOT A PRIVILEGE.
RIGHT TO EDUCATION HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED AS HUMAN RIGHT IN A
NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL CONVENTIONS WHICH RECOGNIZES A RIGHT TO
FREE,COMPULSORY PRIMARY EDUCATION TO ALL AND OBLIGATION FOR
DELEOPMENT OF FURTHER EDUCATION FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL IRRESPECTIVE
OF RACE ,GENDER,NATIONALITY,ETHNIC OR SOCIAL ORIGIN,RELIGION OR
POLITICAL PREFERENCE ,AGE OR DISABILITY.THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION HAS
BEEN UNIVERSALLY RECOGNIZED SINCE THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF
HUMAN RIGHTS IN 1948 AND IS REFLECTED IN ARTICLE 26 WHICH
STATES
- EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION,EDUCATION SHALL BE
FREE,ATLEAST IN THE ELEMENTARY AND FUNDAMENTAL STAGES.ELEMENTORY
EDUCATION SHALL BE COMPULSORY.TECHINCAL AND PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
SHALL BE MADE GENERALLY AVAILABLE AND HIGHER EDUCATION SHALL BE
EQUALLY ACCESSIBLE TO ALL ON THE BASIS OF MERIT.
- EDUCATION SHALL BE DIRECTED TO THE FULL DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN
PERSONALITY AND TO THE STRENGTHENING OF RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
AND FUNDAMENTAL FREEDOMS.IT SHALL PROMOTE UNDERSTANDING ,TOLERANCE
AND FRIENDSHIP AMONG ALL NATIONS ,RACIAL OR RELIGIOUS GROUPS ,AND
SHALL FURTHER THE ACTIVITIES OF THE UNITED NATIONS FOR THE
MAINTENANCE OF PEACE .
- PARENTS HAVE A PRIOR RIGHT TO CHOOSE THE KIND OF EDUCATION THAT
SHALL BE GIVEN TO THEIR CHILDREN.
THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION HAS BEEN REAFFIRMED IN 1960 UNESCO
CONVENTION. THE IMPORTANCE OF THESE RIGHTS IS TO WORK FOR BOTH
ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND IMPROVE QUALITY OF EDUCATION.
THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION IS ESSANTIAL
- TO EXERCISE ALL THE OTHER HUMAN RIGHTS
- TO PROMOTE INDIVIDAL FREEDOM
- FOR EMPOVERMENT AND YEILD DEVELOPMENTAL BENEFITS
- TO PARTICPATE FULLY AS A CITIZEN
- UPLIFTING SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY MARGINALIZED ADULTS AND
CHILDREN FROM POVERTY.
