There are 8 dimensions of wellness: Social, Environmental, Intellectual, Emotional, Physical, Spiritual and Occupational.
How do the various aspects of wellness influence one another? How do different disciplines approach the study of wellness with respect to the individual and society?
World health organisation has defined health in holistic way by
going beyond the physical wellness. It defines health as physical,
mental and spiritual well-being. So this holistic approach today
has opened doors for linking each other. For example, if someone is
not physically well, it affects their emotions and feelings thus
affecting their behaviour in society and home. If someone hasn't
got a conducive environment at home or work life, it would bring
lots of stress thus affecting the mental health. This in turn would
affect the physical wellness of the person because of the unusual
level of harmonal changes that the emotions and feelings
cause.
Work environments promote physical wellness by establishing gyms
and exercise spaces within the company premises. Hospitals have
psychologists who would support the patients by counseling them and
motivate them. Educational institutions employ counselors and
create space for physical and mental wellness. Thus different
entities approach health in a holistic manner.
