2. Intrinsic motivation means the behavior driven by internal rewards. It is the act of doing something without any external rewards. Self-determination theory is intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation theory is more likely to be successful, committed, persistent, creative.
Extrinsic motivation means refers to behavior that depends on external rewards such as money, fame, grades, and praise. The motivation arises outside of a person, just opposite to intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation is four types, such as external regulation, introjection regulation, identification regulation, and integrated regulation.
Viewpoint on extrinsic motivation: it is useful to motivate a group that helps increase productivity in the workplace. Extrinsic motivation leads to behavior, and extrinsic rewards work well in the short term motivational behavior.
3. Needs theories explain how the needs are useful for achievement, power, and affect the action of the individual. There is a hierarchy of needs such as a person attempt to fulfill five basic needs psychological, safety, social, esteem, and self actualism. These needs put pressure on individuals and influence their behavior.
For example, in psychological needs, biological needs included e.g., air, water, and shelter in safety needs such as emotional security and social stability.
4. Vroom expectancy theory assumes that behavior results from the knowledgeable choice whose purpose to maximize pleasure in life.
Expectancy refers to an increase in effort that leads to an increase in the performance of the individual. This theory signifies that an employee's performance is base on factors such a personality, skills, and knowledge of the individual. For example, people recycle plastic and other material because of their beliefs; it is essential to conserve our environment and resources.
5. The goal-setting theory refers to the development of an action plan that is design to motivate and guide a group to their goal. It states that goal setting linked to taking performance, specific and challenging goals, and response contributes to task performance. Kind of goals is stepping stone goal, short term goal, long term goal, lifetime goal.
