Discuss how each of the four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm (nursing, person, environment, and health) have been described in common themes in most theoretic nursing literature, according to Chinn and Kramer (2018, pp. 49-52)
The nursing philosophy is built on four metaparadigm concepts. The four concepts as discussed by various theorists include person( patient), nurse, health and environment.
Person :-
In the concept of caring patient in nursing practice, theorist Watson and Nightingale advocated for the integration of the four concepts to attain quality services. In nursing practice, every patient must be valued and treated with respect regardless of their age, race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and religious preference among others. Every patient is worthy of respect even if their view differs from my own view as a professional. It is the right of every patient to receive quality, accessible services with equity and justice. That means every patient has right to honesty and stays safe when receiving services.
Nurse :-
In the concept of a nurse patients and nurse should build a good relationship with quality services ( Johnson & Webber 2010). A nurse or service provider should respect cultural views and practices of every patient and they should not harm the patient in providing them with services. The nurse must attend every patient and ensure they communicate to patient's families and caregivers about patient's well being. A nurse should promote patient centered care for quality services.
Health :-
The health concept advocates for a complete physical, mental, social, spiritual and social well being of the patient. A patient should attain complete fitness in all aspect either mentally, spiritually, socially or physically. If one aspect of the patient is not meet, that means they have not attained complete fitness.
Environment :-
The environment aspect of nursing metaparadigm focuses on the surrounding that affect the patient. The environment consists of internal and external influences of the behaviour and well being of the patient. Nightingale emphasized the physical features of the environment more than the social features of the environment. Environmental factors like sound, air, circulation, light, pure water and cleanliness all influence the outcomes of the patient's health. Environment not only affects the patients and their ability to heal but can also affect nurses as well.
