Explain what physiological parameters the amplitude of pulse rate (BPM) would be correlated with and why?
Answer: Pulse is the pressure wave transmitted to the arterial wall due to ventricular systole. It is directly proportional to the heart rate. It has a characteristic normal voulme, rate and rhythm on palpation which may alter in certain physiological and pathological states.
It is our autonomic nervous system which controls the heart rate. Any process which increase the heart rate will increase the pulse.
Exercise and physical activities causes increase in the heart rate in order to pump ood rapidly to the organs so the pulse will also increase.
Stress and anxiety also causes stimulation of heart so there will be a variation of the pulse.
Pregancy is a high volume state and there is relative change in the pulse in this stage. Moreover yoga and meditation has been shown to increase the parasympathetic outflow so the pulse rate decreases. Moreover in childhood there is a relative increase in the pulse rate.
All the best mate. Cheers!!
