When Native American principles are used as a basis for practice, models appropriate for use with Native American populations emerge.

Moreover, nurses need culturally specific Native American information to assist with practice approaches.

These include knowledge about: (a) cultural factors, (b) health beliefs, (c) diversity among Indigenous nations, (d) historical facts, (e) skills in listening and communication, and (f) proficiency in being open-minded and non-judgmental.
