Find seven specific examples of nonverbal communication for American culture. Seven total examples of nonverbal communication, one for each type.
Seven types of nonverbal communication are:
1.kinesics : This type of nonverbal communication includes facial expressions,body movements and eye contact. The nonverbal communication that are expressed through facial expressions as frowning of face during anger, body postures as fiddling with phones ,pens or other objects,eye contact while speaking and listening.
In American culture while speaking and listening ,the speaker usually tend to look away from the listener and then looks back to the listener for every few seconds,and before wrapping up maintains a constant eye contact with the listener. While listening a constant focus is maintained on the speaker.
2.Vocalics or paralanguage: This includes the volume,pitch,rate and timbre while speaking.
In America verbal fillers as "um","ah","like" and "uh" are used while speaking listening process.
3. Personal Appearance: The nonverbal communication that is expressed through dressing,hair style etc.
Formal business dressing code for office hours and party wears for partying.
4. Artifacts or objects
Body pricing and tattoos in American culture that's becoming a trend.
5. Proxemics or personal space
Maintaining of close proximity in close relationships as in family members, couples etc. Maintaining a distance while in social context.
6. Haptics or touch
A handshake,pat on shoulders or arms for encouragment.
7. Chronemics or effect of value of time on communication
Most Americans value time,they keep their schedules and deadlines, focus on work and results, give importance to privacy and ownership, build temporary and practical relationship that is they are monochromics.
