How does culture and gender affect
nonverbal behavior?
There are many cases where
miscommunication might occur as s result of a misunderstood body
language. Non verbal communication is built upon the physical
appearance of a person, their appeal, the ways in which a person
carries himself.
Cultural differences and non verbal
communication:
- Cultural Differences arise across
regions, or countries that result in differences in non verbal
communications. In some cultures, such as Japanese, when a person
meets for the first time, he should be greeted properly. These are
prevalent throughout east though, in the west such formal greetings
are not a necessity.
- In western cultures or in eastern
cultures, men to men handshake is preferred, women are not expected
to shake hands with men and it is not even considered decent in the
eastern cultures.
- Eye contacts play a major role, as
they signify that the person is interested in their and their
talks. Also, that the person is confident in them and wants to
communicate further.
