3) Shaking hands or casually hugging a person may be an exemplery of touch which is type of verbal communication.

The use of verbal communication may differ when we are in a party vs when we go for a job interview. This situation can be contrasted with the following examples of various types of verbal communication-

  1. TOUCH- In a party, when friends meet, casual hug on meeting may be common. However, in a job interview, the situation may be different, the people may shake hands before an interview. However, close touch may be avoided.
  2. BODY MOVEMENTS- Distracting manners such as playing with hairs, tapping, wringing, finger-pointing, etc may be common in a party setting. Moreover, there is no obligation for maintaing a straight posture as in a job setting. While people go for an interview, people may be asked to maintain a straight posture and keep the neck straight to show confidence through our body language. However, these things might not be important in a party as people may be in a more relaxed position. Maintaining an eye contact is necessary during an interview. However, this might not be important in a party setting.
  3. APPEARENCE- We may dress up like anything we like during a party. Wearing party wears may sound good for a party but the same may not be applicable in a job interview. Appearence counts during an job interview as clean attire, hairdo, and polished shoes may give impression that the person is presentable. This can be one of the non-verbal communication which counts during a job interview.
