Nursing faculty is responsible for creating an environment that is conducive to learning and accommodates the multiple learning styles and abilities of students. As a nurse educator, how might you design learning experiences for class and clinical environments to promote positive and effective learning for all students? Do you think students should use their preferred learning styles and perhaps risk becoming rigid and unable to learn in different ways (should a situation demand a different learning style)? Or should educators encourage students to be open to different methods of learning, moving them away from their comfort zones?
1)• Design of learning experiences for classes.
a) Classroom should be well ventilated, well lighted.
b) Proper seating arrangement.
c) Functioning of black board and other audio visual facilities in the classroom.
d) Set objectives of the learning experiences.
c) Motivate the learner.
e) Different learning experiences can be use in classroom setting like demonstration, seminar, Group discussion etc.
d) Feedback should be taken after teaching.
• Design for learning experiences for clinical setting.
a) Availability of all resources needed for learning experiences.
b) Orient the new group of the students to the clinical environment to promote their adaptation.
C) Give the opportunity of the students to apply their theoretical knowledge.
d) Different learning experiences can be used in clinical settings are case study, case presentation, process recording, Field visit, bedside nursing clinics.
2) Educator should encourage the students to be open to different methods of learning , moving them away from their comfort zone- because any particular type of learning design can not be applied for all clinical settings. For example, bedside nursing clinics can not be used for any community area. Other example- process recording is only applied where the student gets opportunity for direct interaction with patient.
