How can an organizational environment become conducive to destructive leadership? Relate this idea to your reading on the Psychodynamic Approach.
As we know that destructive leadership aims to breakdown the rules, norms, ethical standards, legitimate interests of the business, downgrade the image of the organization etc. through different unethical and unfair decisions. Such leadership fails to cater and address the basic or root challenges faced by employees and gradually looses it significance in the race of competition.
As per Psychodynamic approach, we can say that a leader may become autocrat, selfish, unfair and unjust due to environmental forces of his or her organization. For example: If, a supervisor works for an organization since 20 years and then promoted to leadership role. Previously, he learnt from his superior people that work for only personal gratification then it is very common that as a leader his learning of corrupt practices will again work with this new role. He may work with maximum destructive capabilities.
As per Psychodynamic theory, we can say that such leaders don’t know about their real consciousness. The personality of such leaders may become critical due to ego like forces. Generally, such leaders take everything for their unknown ego clashes. Conflicts, immoral things etc, may be raised due to unfulfilled gratification and other challenges in personality due to ego.
