Is it safe to give? (Yes or no)
1. ordered Solumedrol is 1.5mg/kg
child weight is 74.8lb=33.92 kg
then required dose as per weight will be=1.5X33.92=50.88mg
Available is Solumedrol is = 125 mg / 2mL.
means in 1 ml 62.5 mg
thus required ml to fulfill the required dose i.e. 50.88mg?
62.5 mg in 1 ml
1mg will be in=1/62.5
50.88mg will be in =(1/62.5)X50.88
=0.8 ml of available is Solumedrol i.e. 125 mg / 2mL will fulfill the dose requirement of the child.
Q.2. Ordered Tobramycin 75mg IV every 12 hours for a child weighing 74 lbs
Weight in kg=33.63 kg
The drug literature recommends a maximum dose of 5mg/Kg/day.
then for 33.63 kg it will be 168.15 mg per day or for 24 hours
hence for 12 hours it will be=84.075 mg is the safe dose as per literature
and 75mg IV every 12 hours , which is below the safe dose value, hence the ordered Ordered Tobramycin 75mg IV every 12 hours for a child weighing 74 lbs is safe.
