A child who weighs 15 kg is ordered Augmentin 300 mg PO three times per day. The recommended dosage for Augmentin is 20-40mg/kg/dose. Is the ordered dose within the safe range per dose. Please answer Yes or No
Recommended safe dosage for Augmentin is 20 - 40 mg/kg/ dose .
Ordered dose is 300mg po 3 times per day
If child weighs 15 kg then the mg of drug which can be give per dose is -
1 kg of child can be given 20 mg to 40 mg
15 kg of child thus can be given the mg of = 20 ×15 to 40 × 15 = 300 - 600mg
Child ordered 300 mg po three times a day and as per recommendations 300 mg to 600 mg can be given to this child as per dose . Even it says 3 times a day as recommended dosage is 300mg -600mg per dose that mean in one dose 300 - 600 mg can be given and child ordered 300 mg times a day so 300×3 = 900mg dose is given in a day So the recommended dosage - is per dose which lie as per ordered dose that is 300mg and recommended dosage is 200 - 400 mg per dose for 15 kg child. That means- Yes, ordered dose lie within the safe rang per dose
