Discuss the various factors associated with the loss of two British naval ships in 1846. Identify why the expedition background was needed and the various factors that influenced the decision?
The quest for discoveries if new sea route began in 15th century when Columbus first find a sea route from Atlantic to asia. for the next 3 to 4 centuries , the quest was on to find even new and novel sea routes.
By 1845, the combined discoveries of all of these expeditions had discovered al areas leaving very small unknown parts of Canadian Arctic . And in this unknown area that Franklin was to sail, heading west through Lancaster sound and then west and south as ice, land, and other obstacles might allow, to complete the Northwest Passage. The distance to be navigated was roughly 1,700 km.
There was 129 crew member , led by Franklin and none of them survived.
Last communication from crew was that they are abondoning the ship . Their body later recovered revealed they could not travel even near to safety. Moreover, injury mark on most body indicate cannibalism. Ship was not found for centuries and only in 2014 canada discovered one of ship and this year other ship was discovered.
