Evidence-based practices are systematically developed practices to assist the practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care in a specific clinical settings.
The objective of implementing an evidence in a clinical practice is essential is to bring the required change in the targeted organization. Itaims at improving the quality of care offered to patients and enhancing the treatment outcomes. Moreover, it helps to minimize the cost of healthcare. Evaluation is crucial step to assess whether the organization has successfully implemented or not.
The Steps for evaluating the evidence within clinical practice guidelines are
1. Make a thorough evaluation plan. It should describe the anticipated variables and outcomes of the intervention.
2. Apply the evidence based practices among patients in the clinical setting.
The evidences are developed through five steps. It includes
a) Ask a clinical question.
b) Obtain the best research literature.
c) Critically appraise the evidence.
d) Integrate the evidence with clinical expertise, patient preferences.
e) Evaluate the outcomes of the decision.
3. Summative evaluation: It consists of determination of the effectiveness of the evidence based practice.
a) It is essentially a systematic mechanism
b) Enables collection and analysis of data on the effects/impacts of an intervention, output, and outcomes during implementation.
This method would helps in measuring and determining the success, efficacy and cost implications of evidenced based practicesin the healthcare organization.
After evaluating the evidence based practices, one can disseminate the findings to implement the practices and also for conducting further research.
