what is evidence based practice
Evidence based practice is a working approach in medical professionals based on research evidence and problem solving approach to the clinical practice that integrates the best evidence or scientific data from patient values, well designed studies and preferences with clinical expertise in making sound decision for patient care and treatment. However there is not set standards or formula on to weigh the impacting factors for the best clinical decision and care process.
The evidence based practice is based on three important elements:
1. Individual clinical expertise - The individual expertise refer to the good educational background, medical practice, experience and clinical skills of the physician or the individual that contribute towards taking decisions for patient care.
2. Best external evidence - Best external evidence refers to the sound decisions taken based on methodology, clinically relevant results, relevant diagnostics and tests that contribute in a significantly to take decisions on patient care.
3. Patient values and expectations - the patient values and expectations are the concerns, morality, preferences and expectations that each patient requires for the clinical care.
With the help of using evidence based practice the medical
practitioners are able to take sound patient care decisions that
have positive patient care outcomes.
