Explain what is the definition of evidence-based practice and how can it be used in clinical settings.
Evidence-based practice is defined as a problem-solving approach for delivering the health care that is based on the best available evidence, clinicians’ expertise, and patient values and preferences.
Developing an institutional culture of EBP is essential to support an effective change in practice. The first step to integrate EBP into an institution is selecting a framework in which decisions are made. Developing a PICOT question is crucial to ensure you are identifying the clinical problem. Selecting team members with emphasis on interprofessional collaboration is the key strategy to successful implementation of EBP and performance outcome. Search for the best evidence by systematically reviewing and doing the meta-analysis to generate a rigorous process to summarize data, critically appraise data, and make recommendations for practice. Evidence resources using both publically available and those requiring a subscription or membership to access such as; Pub Med (MEDLINE) and finally evaluation.
Thus after considering the values and preferences of patients we should do all the diagnostic tests and get an expert opinion from the physician to adopt a line of treatment in EBP.
