How do nurses evaluate the clinical significance within the literature?
Nurses evaluate the clinical significance within the literature by Rodgers evolutionary approach
In Rodgers methodology clinical significance is defined as 'state of the art ' understanding that is synthesis of its myriad uses .
There are numerous problems associated with the use of clinical
significance in nursing literature
1.Information from the analysis indicated lack of consensus about
the use of the term.thus there is multiplicity of
opinions, definition and uses of clinical significance .the absent
of consistent definition creates problems for clinicians.
2.CS was commonly based on researcher judgement, the term is often used subjectively and findings are prone to bias in favour of positive results
3.The majority of study do-not incorporate the perceptive of the patient
THESE PROBLEMS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT A FINDING LABELED AS CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE SHOULD NOT NECESSARILY INFORM DECISIONS ABOUT NURSING PRACTICE
CONCLUSION:
Given the centrality of clinical significance to interpretating research findings and applying them to practice, there is no need to solidify the definition of and measurement of clinical significance in nursh
