How does a high or low Monocytes level related to a patient with chronic kidney diease and atrial fibrillation?
High levels of monocyte incresaes the progression of CKD.
Higher levels of monocytes also exacerbate atrial fibrillation.
Monocytes are type of white blood cells present in pheripheral circulation. They represent an essential component of the innate immune system and play a vital role in cardiovascular health. The beneficial effects of monocytes includes their contribution to cardiac remodeling in response to physiological and pathological changes in hemodynamics, elimination of pathogens, involvement in apotosis and phagocytosis of necrotic tissue. However, excessive inflammatory response to cardiac insult can be harmful to the human body and can lead to cardiac fibosis.
Cardiac fibrosis especially atrial fibrosis is associated with more frequent AF.
Increase in monocyte count leads to micro inflammation in kidneys. Prolonged inflammation promotes fibrosis process which leads to chronic pathology of CKD.
