Answer: The main reasons that have contributed to the shortage of nurses globally is due to the requirement of the healthcare to a greater extent. The second reason is due to baby boomers that is the aging population has increased which results in more senior citizens who will require healthcare. The other reason may be only a limited number of people are choosing nursing as a profession and there is lack of efficient staffs in training programs and education in nursing.

Nursing profession is working towards the resolution of the shortage of nurses by alteration in the schedule of the nurses in the medical facilities in the shift timings to help them balance between their personal and professional life. The schedule is such that they have choices of various shifts and duties according to their needs and facilitate the mothers to spend maximum time with their children.

Example of the way that shortage in nursing has been addressed in a particular community or speciality in New York: The shortage is more in the emergency care and in surgeries specialty which has increased the lack of efficient healthcare in the New York. It is mainly due to the increase in the baby boom generation age. This shortage could be prevalent for a considerable period of time.
