Standing orders authorize nurses and appropriate medical staff to provide services ,procedures and services outside of the office without specific physician authorisation on a given patient.The main objectives in implementing and evaluating are:

  • electronic standing order system and its corporation into daily workflow in eight primary care practices,identifying best methods and strategies.
  • Determine barriers and facilitators to the uptake and sustained use of electronic standing orders in these practices.
  • Documentation of quality indicators help in implementing the standing orders and practice time management resulting from the use of electronic standing orders.
  • Qualitative measures were used to determine the barriers and facilitators to the adoption and continued use of a new electronic standard orders system within each practice.
  • EMR technical issues,reimbursement policies for some services and patient refusal are the barriers that should be well developed and implemented
  • Staff education and follow up of the training sessions are the other main objectives to be followed.
