1.BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT
Bone marrow transplant is a procedure to replace damaged or
destroyed bone marrow with healthy bone marrow stem cells.
TYPES
There are 3 types of bone marrow transplants. They are
- Autologous bone marrow transplant
- Allogeneic bone marrow transplant
- Umbilical cord blood transplant
AUTOLOGOUS BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT
- Stem cells are removed from you before you receive high dose
chemotherapy or radiation treatment.
- The stem cells are stored in a freezer
- After high dose chemotherapy or radiation treatments your stems
cells are put back in your body to make normal blood cells. This is
called a rescue transplant
ALLOGENEIC BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT
- stem cells are removed from another person called a donor.Most
times, the donor's Gene's must at least partly match your
Gene's.
- Special tests are done to see if a donor is a good match for
you
UMBILICAL CORD BLOOD TRNSPLANT
- This is a type of allogenic transplant
- Stem cells are removed from a newborn baby's umbilical cord
right after birth
- The stem cells are frozen and stored until they are needed for
a transplant.
2. NITROGLYCERINE
- Nitroglycerin is a prescription drug that is available as the
brand name drug nitro stat.
- It is also available as a generic drug
USES
- Nitroglycerin is used to treat angina.
- Angina is a pain or discomfort that happens when part of your
heart does not get enough blood.
- It feels like a pressing or squeezing pain.
- It can happen in the chest, neck, arms and lower jaw
MOA
- Nitroglycerin belongs to a class of drugs called
vasodilator.
- A class of drug is a group of medications that work in a
similar way.
- These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions
- Nitroglycerin works by relaxing the smooth muscle and blood
vessels in the body.
- This increases the amount of blood and oxygen that reaches the
heart
- In turn the heart doesn't work as hard. This reduces chest
pain.
SIDE EFFECTS
COMMON
- headache
- Dizziness
- Weakness
- Fast heart rate
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Flushing
- Rash
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS
- low blood pressure
- Symptoms can include dizziness, fainting, blurry vision,
nausea, cold and clammy skin, fast and shallow breathing
