Correlate the prognosis associated with the following treatments for aplastic anemia.
• Bone marrow transplant
• Cytokine therapy
• Stem cell transplant
• Immunosuppression therapy
Prognosis associated with the following treatments for aplastic anemia:-
(a) Bone marrow transplant:- Bone marrow transplantation and
immunosuppressive therapy success rates ranging from 60% to
80%.
- decision is based on age, siblings donor.
(b) Cytokine therapy:- treatment was tolerable.
-The most common toxicities of grade 3/4 reported are as
follow-
thrombocytopenia
(43%)
neutropenia (41%)
transaminase elevation
(13%),
hyperbilirubinemia
(7%)
(c) Stem cell transplant:-
- A study shows that patients with aplastic anemia, should receive
stem cell from binearrow rather than peripheral blood.
- it decrease the chance of rejection.
(d) immunosuppression therapy:-
- For older patients immunosuppression therapy is quite
effective.
