(1) Discuss your reaction to Hitler's Degenerate Art Show. Is it ever justified for a government to take an official stand on art of any kind?

Hitler's Degenerate Art Show, was a mean to show their disliking for modern art. They believed that art form not supporting the ideals of Nazi's culture was not an actual form of art. Nazis considered themselves decent people. They thought that modern art was a threat for their identity.

They also considered modern art as a conspiracy. Due to these ideologies, they considered all the modern art form as "degenerated". They collected all the modern art work and kept at one place. Nazi people disapproved such modern art work.

Art work is a method through which people express their feelings. If people's expressions are not being identified then government can not make a mind about people's choice. Banning an art form by forceful methods can not be justified.

People should have freedom of expression. Those expressions keep governmental machinery in control. Expression through art forms should be promoted. If an art form is hurting sentiments of a particular group and there is a probability that this may ruin the social harmony; then some restrictions can be applied.

Suppose a person makes an art which hurts religious sentiments of a group then such art work should be banned. If an art form is producing potential threat for a security of nation then also such art work should be banned.

Freedom of expressions also comes with certain responsibilities. It can be understood through an example that we can not abuse some one just because we have freedom of expression. Our freedom comes with certain responsibilities.

Government should not impose a particular ideology. Artistic culture should be promoted. Diversity in art culture ignites critical thinking abilities. Responsible art work should be promoted despite its genre and class. Nazis considered whole modern art work as a conspiracy. This is wrong and such attitude should not be promoted.
