the stress fractures are more common in the weight bearing bones, they are usually found in Track and field athletes and military recruits who carry heavy packs over long distances. the most common locations of stress fractures are the second and third metatarsals of the foot.
soprts that involve running, jumping are particularly susceptible for the stress fractures. tennis, basketball dance and gymnastics are among common sports.
these types of fracture may occur because of the following reasons:
1. increased activity - when a person starts the heavy activity all of a sudden and doesn't give enough rest to heal.
2. sex - women are more susceptible for the stress factors than men. because of irregular men**
3 foot problems - people with flat or arched foot.
4. weakened bones - some bone diseases make the bones weak such as osteoporosis.
5. lack of nutrients - eating disorders and lack of vitamin D3 can hinder the absorption of calcium for the formation and repairs of the bones.
