Solutions

Expert Solution

The class of fluoroquinolones.

It is not clearly understood why this occurs. But some studies incline towards following mechanisms. They are toxic to some cells and enzymes in the muscles and skeletal system. They cause damage to articulable surfaces by causing necrosis of chondrocytes. They interfere with collagen synthesis and also cause disintegration of collagen.

The likeliness increases with age. In patients with renal pathology which interferes with the elimination of these drugs. In diabetics and patients on corticosteroid therapy. Patients with long term usage of these drugs or under high dosage consumption. All these increases the likeliness of rupture to occur.

The patient should be informed about the side effects. They should be educated regarding the usage and be made clear not to consume more than prescribed dosage or for more than prescribed duration. Should be advised to consult a doctor as soon as they feel pain, redness or swelling in any joints. They should be advised not to load and over strain any joints during the period of usage of these drugs.
