Health care providers began prescribing opiod medications in late 1990 and thus patients began to get addicted to opiod pain relievers.As a result it lead to widespread misuse ,before recognising the fact that the medicine is highly addictive.The consequences of the opiod overdoses are devastatating.The majority of death is associated with prescribtion errors.
It is a public health issue which needs to be addressed.Five major priorities have been put forward by Health and Human Services such as improving ac ess to treatment and recovery services,promoting the use of overdose-reversing drugs,advancing better practices for pain management,providing support for research on pain and addiction.Opiod crisis is a common issue faced by the Americans.
The goal of administering opiods isto relieve pain and improve quality of life ,trherefore the route of administration ,dose and frequency of administration are determined on an individua;l basis .The factors that need to be considered in determining the route,dose and frequency of medication include the characteristics of the pain,the overall status of the patient ,the patients response to opiods and the patients report of pain.With the administration of opiods by any route,sideffects may be considered and anticipated .
