Describe 4 roles of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs). How are they similar? How are they different?
Ans) APRN is an advanced practice registered Nurse.this means RN has earned a graduate level degree such as Master's of science in Nursing(MSN) or a Doctor of nursing practice,DPN) and has been specially trained in one of the four recognised APRN roles.
According to the APRN consensus model,there are four roles:1)CRNA: certified registered nurse anesthesist.
2)CNS: clinical Nurse specialist.
3) CNM: certified Nurse midwife.
4)CNP: certified Nurse practitioner.
1)CRNA: this RN administer anaesthesia for patients undergoing surgery or other medical procedures.
2) CNS:this RN provides leadership and high level clinical expertise in a speciality area of medicine.eg: community health,geriatrics)
3) CNM:this type of RN specialised in childbirth and performs a host of womens health medical services.eg: reproductive health of women all ages, new born care, delivery).
4)CNP: this type of RN provides advanced,comprehensive care to patients.cares for a variety of people based on the specialisation chosen.eg: adults,geriatrics,mental health,women,pediatrics.
Similarities of APRN:
Acquired advanced clinical skills and knowledge.
Pass national certification exams.
Coordinate care and advocate for patients.
Refer the patients to physicians and other Health care providers.
Obtained a license to practice as an APRN in one of the four roles.
Practice built upon the competencies of a RN.
different activities of APRN:
Their tasks vary depending on their specialisation and the setting in which they work, but typically evaluating a patient's health status and medical history to create a medical care plan.
Case management responsibilities are different in four roles of APRN.
