Example for abnormal finding of respiratory system is "TRACHEO ESOPHAGEAL FISTULA (TEF) ". It is an uncommon connection between one place of the trachea (wind pipe) and esophagus .

Types:

  • Distal fistula between esophagus and trachea
  • H type tracheoesophageal fistula
  • Esophageal atresia, fistula is absent
  • Fistula between esophagus and trachea
  • Upper and lower esophagus atresia

Locate: Patient with Tracheo esophageal fistula may have three signs to locate that is Coughing,choking and cyanosis,shortness of breath,abdominal distension and drooling from mouth.

Communicate:

Questions to be asked:

  • Ask about the presence of symptoms that is coughing,choking,shortness of breath and cyanosis
  • Drooling of secretion from mouth and nose
  • Difficulty in the pregnancy time
  • Did you take any teratogenic drugs during pregnancy
  • Is there any past history of surgery
  • What type of food and how food is taken etc.

Medicate:

Interventions are:

  • Frequent suction to avoid aspiration and choking
  • Surgery as soon as attainable
  • Supply of anti secretary drugs to reduce secretions
  • Elevate head up to 300

Education: Educate the person about the tracheo esophageal fistula and is to prevent aspiration by suctioning of secretions from the nose or mouth and administration of oxygen if necessary.

Advocate: Advocate should decide when surgery have to be proceed or getting postpone because of various reasons.
