what are the common food sources of fungi?
The fungi cannot produce their own food like plants, so they try to depend on the external sources of food to support them. These will have hyphae and penetrate through the food source and absorb the dissolved food with the help of secreted extracellular digestive enzymes. They grow on variety of food sources.
Penicillium and Aspergillus are known to feed on fish, meat and eggs.
Eurotium herbariorum, A.versicolor are known to feed on raw milk
Fuasarium, cladosporium and sclerotinia are known to feed on vegetables.
Fusarium sp, chrysonilia sitophila, A. paraciticus are known to feed on cereals and nuts.
P.corylophilum and A.glaucus are known to feed on jam and jellies.
Geoesporium spp and Monilia are known to feed on fruits
