Phylum Arthropoda Discussion:
1. How do arthropods cope with the many challenges of multicellularity?
2. Briefly discuss why arthropods and annelids are considered closely related to each other.
3. Name three aspects of arthropod biology that have been important in contributing to their success.
4. What is chitin and what is it composed of?
1. Arthopods have many adaptations that allow them to cope with challenges of multicellularity. They have exoskeleton which make them versatile and protective. They have jointed legs which allow d them to live on land. The exoskeleton allow them to diverse environment as it is very hard and protect arthopods from diverse environment.
2. The annelids and arthopods are considered closely related to each other as both have segmented bodies. These segmented bodies are specialized to perform specific function. The presence of segmentated body give them flexibility to do many work easily.
3. Three aspect of arthopods biology that have been important in contributing to the success are:
I. Presence of hard skin known as chitin.
II. Presence of jointed legs.
III. Presence of wings.
4. Chitin is one of the important biopolymer produced by some animals like arthopods and fungi. It is made up of monomer units known as N-acetyl- glucosamine.
